Jump Start Your Day with this Simple Smoothie!

Oh the morning. Whether you love it or hate it, getting started for the day should include a breakfast that will be filling and energizing. Some love to sit down to a classic dish of eggs and bacon. Some prefer yogurt, oatmeal, fruit, granola, or just a cup of coffee. But what about avocados?

"Breakfast is everything. The beginning, the first thing. It is the mouthful that is the commitment to a new day, a continuing life" - A. A. Gill

Avocados are a super food. They are chalk full of healthy fats and they help with nutrient absorption. They also strengthen your immune system and have anti-inflammatory properties. The list of benefits is pretty extensive. In my opinion, an avocado a day is even better than an apple a day and will certainly keep the doctor away! But other than chopping an avocado for a salad or guacamole, how can you make sure you're getting enough of it's green goodness? Breakfast. Yep, you read that right.

Recently, I've discovered the deliciousness that is an avocado smoothie. I have seen variations of this smoothie but prefer to keep it simple. It's easy to whip up and the ingredient list is short. I usually drink this smoothie around 7:30 a.m. and I am not hungry again until 2 p.m.! Below you will find the easy instructions for this powerful breakfast smoothie.

Ingredients
  • 1 avocado
  • 1 cup of fruit of choice (I like berries)
  • 1 tsp of vanilla
  • splash of water or dairy such as milk, heavy cream, almond milk, etc.
  • handful of ice cubes
  • sweetener (optional- I use monk fruit or stevia)
Directions

Cut the avocado and remove it's contents using a spoon. Add all ingredients to a blender and blend until smooth. Pour and drink up this creamy and delicious breakfast!

We go from trying to combat humidity in the summer, right into the cold, brittle weather of Fall and Winter.  As a hairstylist, I run into all kinds of people who claim to have great ideas to help remedy hair problems at home. I even know a lady who SWEARS by putting mayo in her hair as a deep conditioner… sorry, but that’s going a little far for me. Mostly because I hate the idea of mayo to begin with, and just the idea of it being in my hair on purpose seems horrible.  However, there are actually a few really good tips for protecting your hair, that I think are pretty simple – like not hairdresser simple, but like regular-people simple. (Tested and proven by my own family members). What's Good for the Laundry is Good for Your Head One of our biggest issues in the winter is static. The easiest and best-smelling way to make sure you don’t look too much like Albert Einstein this winter is
